Following the Links – Finding Gotye

February 6, 2012 by still a dreamer

I am frequently amazed at how many talented writers, artists, photographers, etc. are out there blogging, and am equally amazed at how by following a link or two, we find wonderful and unexpected gems.

I was looking at a Fresh Pressed site, photographs taken by Loren Cooper during a blanketing of snow in London and was drawn to one commenter. I visited Inidna’s blog where she had posted videos and information about an Australian musician, Gotye.  I’ve never heard of him, but am easily getting lost in his music, and am already considering buying his album. What drew me in immediately is this deeply touching animated video wed to one of Gotye’s songs, Bronte, from his album Making Mirrors. What a brilliant combination of music and story.

Absolutely love this post 🙂 Thank you for stopping by my page and I’m glad that you found some inspiration from the amazing Gotye! The video is quite perfect for the song; background note on Bronte: it was written for a friend of his who had recently lost their family dog. He felt so connected to the loss and the emotions evoked from it that the song came to him instantly. Fantastic, isn’t it?

Thanks for the background on Bronte – animals are my greatest inspiration, so I’m not so surprised that the loss of his friend’s dog could evoke this song from such a talented musician. Knowing this, and listening to the words with a “new ear”, I had a new wave of feelings and memories about when our smaller best friends leave us. I am also very impressed with the people that did that animation … I’m working to someday get published in children’s books as both author and illustrator, so for me, this was a perfect song/story with perfect imagery. Thanks again.
