Speaking for myself, I have loved music and have been dancing all my life. How about you?
So when I came across this, I wanted to be up dancing — it was Bruno Mars, after all — but I was too mesmerized by what was happening on my screen to even so much as look away for 2 seconds. Check out this compilation of movie clips, all before 1953, impeccably timed to “Uptown Funk” by Mark Ronson ft. Bruno Mars, and watch on YouTube!
If you’re not smiling after watching this, please take two aspirin and call me in the morning.
The amazing video was created by Nerd Fest UK, who comments on the magic of editing:
“Film Editing is the one art form unique to the cinema. All other constituent parts of the medium derive from something else that came before. Writing and composing had been around for centuries; production design, special effects, acting and directing all came from the theatre, and sound was a later development following on from the phonograph. Even cinematography had an ancestor in photography. But editing had no ancestor. It was invented by the cinema and remains the essence of it.”
Fabulous! It is no wonder that my favorite form of entertainment has always been the Broadway musical. As for the movie screen, I’ve seen the dance finale of Dirty Dancing more times than I can remember. It never gets old. Thanks for sharing, Jeanne.

Funny thing is, Broadway musicals are definitely not my favorite form of entertainment, but this was so amazing that I loved every one featured. Yeah – I’ve watched that more than once myself. 😃

Oh, I love these superbly-edited dance mash-up’s! So much talent, and a lot of my favorite movies and dancers! Thanks, Jeanne. Perfect way to end the day…though it may be a challenge not to dance all night! XO

Oh, Kitty, I dance all the time, more so lately. It’s another part of my life that has been restored to me, and in a big way. As for the movies … how I remember Shirley Temple!! Glad to give your day a happy end!

How about that? Then I’m happy I shared, too! I’m embarrassed to say how many times I’ve watched it. LOL

Especially when they’re this good. I thought it brilliant, but a friend of mine, who knows music, said it’s not as complicated as I think; it’s simply 4/4 time. But I guess I’d have to know what that means, right? LOL

Regarding the comment on film editing: It is a profession that requires an abundance of art and technique. No wonder editors get so upset when their awards are not carried live at the Oscars. Having worked in both film and television, I always waited with bated breath for the editors to work their magic with what I brought them. And I loved the medium of film.

When an edit is smoothly done, the viewer doesn’t even notice … the film just flows. I watch music videos and am constantly taken with the subtle ways in which your eye is caught by minor gems while the rest just flows seamlessly. Film/video editors are definitely an underrated bunch, and deserve much more love than they get.
