Drawing Horses

September 6, 2010 by still a dreamer

What to do when you’ve been too long away from one’s children’s book illustrations? Get back in! And sometimes how I get back in is to wade in – so to speak – with a totally different subject matter than that of my current children’s book.

I’ve just been thinking of horses for a number of reasons, so started to look through some reference material, deciding on a color photo of 2 mares and their foals. Simple pen and ink, something that I always enjoy working in and is a very relaxing medium for me.

The result – tada!

I think it’s quite important to constantly practice what you love to do. Great job on the horses! 🙂

      Thanks so much, Melissa.
I agree – and then we see what we can do and feel refreshed for the journey all over again!
And a little appreciation goes a far way, too. Tx.

Jeanne-do you keep up with the blog the wild pryors? Not too long ago Freshly Pressed and daily photos on the site show the wild pryor horses! Could be further inspiration for you drawings. 😉

I did visit that blog when I saw it on Freshly Pressed, and thank you for the heads-up. I actually volunteer for a local horse rescue not far from here, Mylestone, designed and continue to update their web site, plus other projects. It’s all I can do to keep up with that! I actually have fabulous and live reference material a mere 15 minutes away!
Thanks for thinking of me. Jeanne
