Searching for Signs of Life

April 3, 2014 by still a dreamer

No one would argue – at least not up this neck of the woods – that this has been a long, long winter. So when I went walking on a recent sunshiny day, I went searching for signs of life – Spring life! And here’s a small sampling of what I found.

Spring-WildCrocus2

One of two brave little wild crocus poking its head up
among the dead grass and leaves.

Spring-DaffodilsWaiting2

Bunches of daffodils were just waiting for a little more sunlight, a little more warmth. While I didn’t find any in bloom yet, there were truly “crowds of daffodils” everywhere, in people’s yards, by the river, in the midst of wilder areas I passed, ready to grace us with their golden trumpets.

Spring-Snowdrops2

Hiding and shy within the shade of an old abandoned garage, these snowdrops just pushed aside the dead leaves — I may be small, but I am mighty!

Spring-Crocus2

Here and there in yards that would soon have busy people raking and clearing and mulching were occasional small bunches of crocus in bloom.

Spring-LoneCrocus2

“Never stop pedaling to power your dreams.”  ~Terri Guillemets

You pedal, little crocus. You pedal!

The days seem to be warming up very slowly this year, but the flowers can’t be far behind. They’ll be a welcome change for sure! J.

O the blessed relief the sight of flowers brings this winter go round.
I’m currently nipping the heads off the earliest jonquils which surfaced, much to my delight, in a small patch along the side of the house near the door. I was so grateful that they survived the rollercoaster weather patterns this year. The crocuses declined to rise and shine, but some tulips are considering putting on a show. Though they’re reluctant to give any signs of flowering.
Thanks for sharing your signs of life.
Your visits to my blogcasa are most appreciated. 🙂

Hey! I’m glad you come by to visit as well. 🙂 Jonquils – how lovely! We have lots of daffodils right about now and crocus, too. The tulips – a big deer fave around here – should be appearing. Hopefully, we’ll get to see them before they’re snacked on!

        Now I’m snacking on dandelions.
        Really.
        Couldn’t resist. Hi.

Yeah, that’s someplace I don’t see myself going … still trying to acclimate to dark, leafy greens. No easy task!
