One of the best things about living where I do is that there is a family farm just 2.5 miles from my house – Phillips Farms. They once were a small roadside stand, but expanded and built a much bigger store in a more accessible location.
They grow everything they sell, and it’s all fresh and delicious. They have over a dozen variety of apples, including my favorite macouns.
Plus every fruit or vegetable imaginable as the months roll by. We are often advised to eat foods that are in season, and Phillips Farms makes that easy. Plus they offer apple and pumpkin picking in the fall, berry picking in the spring and summer.
When they expanded, they built a kitchen on the premises. They bake pies, doughnuts, and fresh breads, and make their own jams and pasta sauces, all these items with their own produce
They offer fresh flowers in every season in pots or cut to make your own arrangements. This year they added eucalyptus.
New Jersey is known as the Garden State, and my county is the highest agricultural county within the state. Living here does mean some sacrifices in that a trip to go see art or other events in NYC or Philadelphia is a bit of a trek, but a good life with fresh and delicious food all year-round just 7 minutes away seems a pretty good counterbalance.

Beautiful photos of what sounds like a dreamy farm! Great diversification and such hard work for these farmers, but what a great place to have nearby. Hope they’re well-supported! Enjoy your Macouns!

Since they moved from the pretty, back country road they were once on, they have truly been thriving. They also now bring fresh produce to spots in Manhattan, Brooklyn and even the Bronx once or twice a week. I feel so proud of my local farmer!

I agree. I don’t ever want to move having something so wonderful so nearby!

Your photos are gorgeous. The only “farm” that includes all of the items you list here is Pink Berry Farm in Middletown, RI about 40 minutes from us. We can get all these “goodies” at about 3 different farms all within half an hour, so we pick and choose what we want on any given day. You are so lucky to have everything within a few minutes away. Enjoy them all while the weather is still beautiful. Love, Aida and Bob

Thank you! I am so lucky. I didn’t even mention that I also get my eggs there (fresh, laid that week), as well as local milk and other dairy products. Shopping here is often a great fill-in between trips to the supermarket, and everything id always fresher. :-)

Fantastic photos showing off this fantastic family farm. We live within 20 minutes of a family farm as well (in the Boston area), and I shop there once to twice a week. Everything is so fresh and local and YUM. By the way, I grew up in the Garden State. But so much of the “garden” (farms) that I used to drive by in southern NJ are gone, replaced by housing developments. :-(

So you understand. To be able to get eggs that were laid within the last week …. beyond happy. Lucky for us here in Hunterdon, we are not only the highest agricultural county in the state, but they are huge into farmland preservation, and even have rules about how big the circumference of a tree can/cannot be before one cuts it down. I don’t know why they’re as vigilant as they are, but I’m grateful!!
