One Little Act of Kindness

February 12, 2017 by still a dreamer

Today, Sunday February 12th, is the beginning of Random Acts of Kindness Week. This whole concept had taken off to such a degree as to be a movement, but I pay no attention to that. And while you can, you needn’t either. What we can all do during this week is one little thing – one kind little thing – each day for another person or animal that will make some small difference in their life. Just because we can.

Kindness, as you know, is it’s own reward. And if you enjoy how you feel this week, then go for another week, and another. Because not only will you have changed the world,  you will have changed yourself.

Here are some new quotes I found for inspiration …

“Remember that everyone you meet is afraid of something, loves something and has lost something.”
~ H. Jackson Brown, Jr.

“Too often we underestimate the power of a touch, a smile, a kind word, a listening ear, an honest compliment, or the smallest act of caring, all of which have the potential to turn a life around.”
~ Leo Buscaglia

“Sure the world breeds monsters, but kindness grows just as wild… ”
~ Mary Karr, The Liars’ Club: A Memoir, 1995

“Do your little bit of good where you are; it’s those little bits of good put together that overwhelm the world.”
– Desmond Tutu

“In the long run, the sharpest weapon of all is a kind and gentle spirit.”

~ Anne Frank, The Diary of Anne Frank

This is a beautiful post, Jeanne. The small acts of kindness and compassion do add up! I love the quotes, too. 🙂

Thanks Lavinia. I’m a big fan of quotes. So much can be said in so few words. And of course, kindness … so much can be done in such small gestures. Have a great day!

A lovely post, Jeanne, and a great reminder that acts of kindness matter and don’t need to be confined to a given week…they really boost our spirits, too.

I see you’re reading Louise Penny; she’s written one of my favorite series! I hope you enjoy her. I love so many mystery authors; I just finished re-reading all of Martha Grimes’ Richard Jury mysteries, and I also love Donna Leon’s series. I’m about to start Ruth Rendell’s Wexford books…glad there are so many great writers to keep me going. 🙂

Kindness is so easy, isn’t it? And so needed, especially after I just read a bit of today’s news. Thank you for appreciating this post.
I actually read two of Louise Penny’s later novels first – “How the Light Gets In” and “The Nature of the Beast” – because that’s what my little town library had on the shelves. Totally sucked me in! So now I’m going back to the beginning and reading in order (borrowed on inter-library loan from the county library 🙂 . I’m sure other books will be interspersed, but that’s my plan. Thanks for some additional suggestions, too!
It couldn’t be more true – so many books, so little time!

How wonderful to come to this post after reading comments on my blog about doing what we can to help those in need. Thank you for this beautiful post.

You are so very welcome. And I was just one of those people! I have a boatload of work on my desk, but something called me to read your latest post and refresh my spirit, so thank you, too. 🙂

And , like Kitty, I note that you are reading Louise Penny, one of my fave mystery authors, along with Martha Grimes’ Richard Jury mysteries (I just reread Dust) and Donna Leon’s.

Cynthia, it’s you(!) who introduced me to Louise Penny on your blog and I am so very grateful. I keep thinking of how I can say `thank you’ on your blog without it being a totally irrelevant comment on some other subject, but here you are! She is such a wonderful writer. If I have any criticism at all, it’s that Gamache’s name is so close to ganache, that every time I see it I think of chocolate. I don’t think Louise would be too offended by that. 🙂
